Our client is currently recruiting for a Technical Safety Engineer. Based in Aberdeen, the role is on a 12 month contract (PAYE)

ROLE

Provides specialist support, advice and guidance on technical aspects of safety, enabling the Company in fulfilling its regulatory compliance obligations. To ensure that Company is up to date with Industry developments and best practice.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Development and upkeep of operational Safety Cases in line with legislative requirements, conducting Thorough Reviews in line with SCR 2005 requirements and current best practice, and applying this philosophy to all Company Operations
  • Technical safety overview of modifications projects etc. (e.g. review of project generated safety studies) Co-ordination of and participation in technical safety risk assessment activities (eg. HAZID, HAZOP, etc.)
  • Co-ordination of activities undertaken by external Consultants
  • Provision of technical safety and risk management support and advice to operational and project personnel
  • Guide and advise operations staff on SCE Performance Standard verification & Assurance Scheme issues
  • Develop and deliver Major Accident Hazard Awareness programmes for offshore
  • Liaison with regulatory authorities and other relevant external bodies
  • Conduct support visits to Companies Operational Locations
  • Keep up to date with scientific and legislative developments (eg. through Participation in Industry working groups) and integrate new technology and best practice into the Thorough Review Process and SHEMS framework.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Good negotiating skills, tact and diplomacy
  • Team player but able to work on own initiative
  • Excellent communication, written and verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Able to gain and maintain the confidence and co-operation of the workforce
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Thorough understanding of relevant statutory provisions, particularly in relation to Major Accident Hazard Management
  • An engineering degree plus a formal technical safety / risk management qualification – e.g. MSc in Safety & Reliability Engineering

Preferred

  • Highly motivated, enthusiastic and creative: able to ‘think outside the box’
  • Experience of technical authoring desirable
  • Auditing skills
  • Chartered or working thorough Chartership via a Engineering Council professional body e.g. SaRS/SEE, IChemE, IMechE

Other Skills

  • The successful candidate should understand the various phenomenological models – eg. Dispersion; Explosion overpressure; Heat radiation, etc.
  • They should have an excellent working knowledge of QRA, CBA, FERA, EERA, Passive and Active Fire Protection, and Human Factors.
  • Experience in facilitating studies – eg. HAZID, HAZOP, SIMOPs, SIL Assessment, Bow-Tie analysis, ALARP demonstration, etc.
  • Familiarity with UK, European and International Codes and Standards.
  • Experience in engineering project safety management is preferred.
  • Experience in Safety Case Management is essential.
  • 5 Years experience in a similar position within Oil & Gas, Chemical, or other ‘High Reliability/Major Accident Hazard / COMAH Industry.
