Our client is currently recruiting for an Offshore Installation Manager. The role is offered on an initial 12 contract and will be on a rotational basis in West Africa.

ROLE

The Offshore Installation Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and safety of offshore installation operations for heavy structures. This role involves leading engineering efforts, coordinating with subcontractors, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and environmental regulations. The manager will handle complex analyses related to transportation, loadout, lifting, and installation, while interfacing with various stakeholders to deliver projects efficiently and safely.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To plan, analyse, and validate the safe transportation, loadout, lifting, and offshore installation of heavy structures, ensuring all operations meet engineering standards, safety requirements, and marine environmental constraints
  • Responsible for the Coordination of the Installation Engineering with the Installation subcontractor.
  • Responsible for all Installation Aids required for the Installation of the major Packages.
  • Leads the Installation offshore with the Installation subcontractor.
  • Liaise with the Marine Warranty Surveyor – MWS, concerning the transportation and Installation matters.
  • Lead the efforts to calculate forces on loadout supports, skid shoes, winches, strand jacks, ballasting systems, and transport structures
  • Lead efforts to define load paths and verify quay/jetty load capacities
  • Lead effort to perform stability, ballasting, and tipping analysis during loadout transitions
  • Lead effort to perform structural and hydrodynamic analysis of modules on barges or transport vessels
  • Lead effort to conduct motion response analysis due to wave, wind, and current conditions
  • Design and verify sea-fastening structures (grillages, supports, tie-downs, bumpers)
  • Evaluate slamming, accelerations, and lashing requirements
  • Perform lifting analysis (static & dynamic) for offshore lifts using cranes or lifting vessels
  • Lead effort to calculate sling tensions, center of gravity (COG) effects, and stability during lifting operations
  • Lead effort in the design of lifting frames, spreader bars, and rigging systems
  • Simulate offshore installation sequences (jacket upending, topside float-over, monopile driving, etc.)
  • Lead effort to run strength checks for temporary structures (grillage, lifting lugs, skid beams)
  • Ensure that FEA tools to model stresses and deformation during loadout or lift
  • Ensure compliance with design codes (DNV, ABS, API, ISO, AISC, Eurocode)
  • Assess metocean data (wave height, wind speed, tidal variation) for installation windows
  • Analyze vessel motions and weather limits for safe operation
  • Provide input for operational risk assessments and contingency plans
  • Ensure and/or prepare detailed Installation Procedures, Loadout Plans, and Analysis Reports
  • Lead effort toward the generation of lifting and transport drawings with rigging details
  • Interface with construction, naval architecture, vessel operators, and clients

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Civil Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field; advanced degree (master’s or PhD) preferred.
  • Professional certifications such as Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent in relevant engineering disciplines.
  • Minimum of 15-20 years of experience in offshore lifting operations, specifically handling weights between 100 to 500 tons and over.
  • Proven expertise in offshore installation engineering, including heavy lift operations, marine transportation, and structural analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of industry standards (e.g., DNV, ABS, API) and software tools for FEA, hydrodynamic, and motion analysis.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and subcontractors.
  • Willingness to work offshore as required, with a strong commitment to safety and environmental compliance.
