Our client, an oil and gas operator is currently recruiting for an experienced HSE Manager to join their Onshore Renewables team. The role will be based in London, offers a hybrid working arrangement and will require occasional site visits.

ROLE

The postholder will provide functional leadership and operational assurance across our UK renewables onshore activities mainly. They will provide support to the Head of HSE and project teams on the aspects below (non-exhaustive list) as they relate to renewables projects in the UK:

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and assure the projects teams in achieving compliance with company standards and statutory responsibilities, implementing and embedding the company safety practices in the project management systems.
  • Coordinate HSE activities across UK Solar projects and interfaces with other HSE resources as required.
  • Lead, coach, and coordinate the activities of site HSE Supervisors, ensuring consistent application of HSE standards and practices.
  • Act as the CDM subject‑matter lead for UK Solar projects, providing authoritative advice, challenging duty holders where required, and ensuring effective application of design risk management and CDM compliance across the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure all project personnel receive an appropriate project induction covering the relevant HSEQ aspects.
  • Lead and assure the project teams in the safe execution of any operational activities, including risk assessments, tender evaluations, participation in HIRAs, review of quality and HSE plans, inspection and test plans, kick-off meetings, safety standdowns and relevant meetings.
  • Work with the project teams to ensure that all undesirable events are reported and recorded in the appropriate locations.
  • Lead and oversee incident investigations, ensuring that investigation reports are completed in due time with corrective and preventive actions and disseminated as appropriate, including via the REX processes. Evaluate the effectiveness of the implementation of the corrective and preventive actions.
  • Own and drive HSE performance monitoring and reporting for UK Solar projects, analysing trends, identifying systemic risks, and advising senior management on performance improvement actions. Plan, lead and coordinate internal and external HSE audits, providing independent assurance to the Head of HSE and project leadership on the effectiveness of HSEQ management systems and controls.
  • Participate in HSE risks evaluation for audits or technical review for internal approval processes (project review, CORISK, others).
  • Monitor and report to the Head of HSE the level of project compliance regarding the implementation of H3SEQ standards, any local by-laws and government legislation

REQUIREMENTS

  • Preferably degree qualified within health and safety with considerable relevant work experience. Good understanding of HSEQ Management Systems, HSEQ Risks & UK Legal Framework.
  • Understanding of development, design and construction activities.
  • Good knowledge of HSE standards and framework.
  • Experience in incident investigation using a formal RCA process. Experience reviewing and commenting on subcontractor construction phase plans and HSE plans.
  • Detailed knowledge of qualitative risk assessments techniques
  • Experienced in the successful application and management of HSEQ in a multi-disciplinary project environment.
  • Working knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation, and in particular the CDM regulations.
  • Registered member of IOSH or equivalent professional body desirable.
